ABRIDGED PROFILE OF THE DEPUTY REGISTRAR 1/SAO (STUDENT AFFAIRS) MRS. DOROTHY NKIRU OKEKE

Mrs. Dorothy Nkiru Okeke joined the services of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka as an Administrative Officer in 1999 and rose to the rank of Deputy Registrar on October, 1st 2012. She was thereafter promoted to Deputy Registrar (1).

  1. POSITIONS HELD IN THE UNIVERSITY

She has been the Head of Administration in various Units even as a young Administrative Cadre Staff in these Offices like General Studies and Sandwich Programs. She has been the Deputy Registrar, Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, Deputy Registrar, Examinations, Deputy Registrar, Personnel and presently Deputy Registrar 1/SAO, Student Affairs Department.

 

  1. SERVICE ON UNIVERSITY COMMITTEES

Mrs. Dorothy Nkiru Okeke has served in over forty (40) Committees in the University. She has served as a Recorder in University Management Committee, General University Council, Finance and a General purpose, committee Tenders’ Board of council and University Management Tenders’ Board. She served as Secretary to Appointment and Promotions Committee (Junior Staff), Appointment to some Permanent Positions (Academic Staff), Committee that Investigated a Publication “NAU News Academic”, Panel on Activities of NAU Alumni Association, Committee on Staff Welfare/Club, Panel on Existing Rates of Honoraria, Chairperson, Personnel Unit Appraisal Committee etc.

She has attended several workshops/seminars organized by Association of Nigerian University Professional Administration (ANUPA) and other Professional Organizations/institutions in Nigeria.

She has attended International Administrative Officers Workshop of Graduate School, Washington D.C., U.S.A.

As Deputy Registrar 1/Student Affairs’ Officer, she has attended several Pre-Mobilization Workshops for effective NYSC Mobilization Exercises.

PRESENT JOB SPECIFICATION OF THE DEPUTY REGISTRAR 1/SAO, STUDENT AFFAIRS

In-charge of administration in the Student Affairs Department of the University and responsible to the Dean for the day-to-day administration in carrying out the following functions:

  • Supervises and controls the activities and functions of Staff of the Department.
  • Serves as a Liaison Officer between the University and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) being the Student Affairs Officer (SAO)
  • Oversees the smooth running of the mobilization processes
  • Facilitates Training/Seminars to Staff and Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) on effective and efficient NYSC Mobilization process
  • Attends Workshops on Mobilization and give report to the Dean, the Registrar and the Vice-Chancellor
  • Supervises and controls the activities and function of the data processing Officers
  • Communicates NYSC decisions to concerned stakeholders and students
  • Assist in the Appraisal of Staff of the Department
  • Attends to the Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) mobilization problems.
  • Represents effectively the Registrar in the Student Affairs Department
  • Writes official letters for the Registrar in matters concerning the part-time students’ attestations
  • Writes official letters for the Registrar in matters concerning NYSC
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Dean, Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar.

Mrs. Dorothy Nkiru Okeke is happily married to Chief (Sir) Barr C.C. Okeke and the marriage is blessed with five lovely children and some grand-children to the glory of God. Amen.
