
Dr. Segun Idowu Adeniyi

Dr. Segun Idowu Adeniyi is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Management Sciences at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. He holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Accounting from Lagos State University, Ojo, and both M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Accountancy from Nnamdi Azikiwe University. He is a highly accomplished academic with a strong foundation in accounting, research, and professional practice.
Professionally, Dr. Adeniyi is a Certified Member of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (CNA), a Certified Member of the Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria (CCrFA), and an active member of several academic and professional bodies, including the Academy of Management Nigeria (MAMN), the American Accounting Association (MAAA), and the Nigerian Accounting Association (MNAA). His professional affiliations reflect his commitment to advancing accounting practice, forensic investigation, and corporate governance.
Dr. Adeniyi has accumulated significant administrative and leadership experience within the University. He has served as Departmental Student Staff Adviser I (2023/2024 and 2024/2025 sessions), President of the Association of Yoruba Staff, UNIZIK (May 2025 to date), and Chairman, Faculty of Management Sciences Postgraduate Student Welfare Committee (December 2024 to date). He also serves as Member/Secretary, Faculty Endowment Fund Committee, and has held positions such as Chairman, Faculty Teaching Facilities Committee (CEP) and Co-Chairman, Faculty Media and Publicity Committee, demonstrating strong involvement in academic governance and student support systems.
An active researcher and scholar, Dr. Adeniyi has contributed chapters to several academic books, published numerous articles in reputable local and international journals, and presented papers at both national and international conferences. His research interests include Corporate Reporting, Forensic Accounting, Auditing, and Investigation, areas in which he continues to make meaningful academic and professional contributions.

Roles, Responsibilities & Areas of Oversight:
- Overseeing accommodation services, particularly hostel environment management, to ensure a safe, orderly, and conducive living space for students.
- Managing the Students’ Affairs Office environment to promote efficiency, coordination, and effective service delivery.
- Assisting in coordinating SUG and hostel sporting activities to enhance students’ engagement, promote healthy competition, and encourage structured participation and representation within the University community.

Key Innovations:
- Structured Hostel Cleanliness Monitoring System
Introduction of a roster-based system for hostel executives and casual workers to conduct monthly room visits, ensuring sustained cleanliness and improved living conditions within student rooms. This initiative complements existing environmental sanitation exercises by promoting continuous monitoring and personal responsibility among residents, alongside strengthened supervision of hostel staff. - Hostel Environmental Excellence Award Scheme
Establishment of a performance-based recognition system that rewards the cleanest hostel environment at the end of each semester. This initiative encourages healthy competition among hostels, reinforces hygiene standards, and promotes a culture of cleanliness and accountability within the student community.
